SAP Applications

SAP offers solutions that enable customers to rapidly develop, deploy and access line of business applications running on its backend application platform. Its mobility offering extends access to business data, functions and processes for real time availability through a VT100 emulator or a web browser running on a Windows Mobile or Windows CE device. The SAP mobility solution has evolved from text based SAP Console to browser based Web SAP Console, ITS Mobile and the latest Web Dynpro. Naurtech products provide "out of the box" support to access SAP applications using any of these technologies from an RF handheld terminal.

SAP interface

SAP NetWeaver Mobile - Always Connected

Previously called Mobile Web Dynpro, the SAP NetWeaver Mobile Always Connected technology is part of Netweaver Application Server Java. It provides SAP's development and runtime environment to create professional business applications and their user interfaces for access from a web browser. The mobile applications have a zero footprint on the device and require running a web Browser on the terminal. SAP NetWeaver Mobile also provides the appropriate infrastructure and renderers for mobile devices, such as Pocket PCs and BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds.

If you have implemented an application using SAP Netweaver Mobile, you can access it using our Web Browser from any RF handheld terminal. All functionality such as key remapping, cursor input focus, barcode scan data control etc are available "out of the box". Our web browser also supports additional functionality, such as speech recognition and voice output.

ITSmobile

ITSmobile is SAP's standard technology to bring applications based on ABAP dynpros for access from a hand held terminal using a web browser. An HTML template for visualization in the browser is provided for every screen (dynpro) of the application. Dynamic content / data can be included in the templates at runtime using HTMLBusiness (HTMLB). A template generator allows you to easily generate templates of simple application screens for mobile devices of any screen form factor.

Our Web Browser can be used to access ABAP transactions through any display screens rendered using the ITSmobile template generator.

Web SAP Console

With the dominance of Windows Mobile / Windows CE as the operating System of choice on rugged handheld terminals, the Web browser has taken a more central role for accessing the same business applications. Web SAP Console uses a set of predefined displayer DLLs to render the application business logic for view through a web browser running on a handheld terminal.

Our Data collection web browser can be used to access SAP applications through Web SAP Console. It supports all existing pre-defined displayer DLLs.

The displayer DLLs technology to support various terminal form factors is not very robust and extensible as the pre-defined DLLs were "fixed" and could not be modified easily. Such limitation has justified SAP's decision to put Web SAP Console in maintenance mode. It can only be used with SAP Systems up to Netweaver 7.0. No further improvements to Web SAP Console are planned.

SAP Console

SAP Console is a technology to link character based devices to SAP applications. It requires a VT100 terminal emulator to be running on a handheld device. Our VT emulation, which is part of either the CETerm or CEVT220 products, satisfies all requirements for accessing applications using SAP Console.

Function Key remapping
You can easily map / remap the function keys on your terminal so that these are associated with function key buttons or URL links displayed in the SAP web application screens viewed through our Browser. Such key remapping capability is not available with the Pocket IE Browser which comes with Windows CE terminals.
Barcode scanner control
You can control the decoded barcode data scanned into your web application using our Web Browser. The decoded data can be parsed, manipulated, reformatted and even split for entry into multiple input fields for submission. You cannot do this using a Pocket IE Browser which comes with Windows CE terminals.
Seamless migration
The same CETerm application running on a handheld terminal can be used to access all SAP applications, from text based SAP Console requiring VT100 emulation to browser based Web SAP Console, ITS Mobile and the latest Web Dynpro. This provides a seamless migration path to SAP customers
Hardware choice
We are an independent software vendor and our product is not "tied" to a specific hardware manufacturer. Since CETerm is device tailored for every terminal from every major hardware manufacturer, you are no longer limited in your choice of hardware terminals to access SAP applications.
Operating System independence
CETerm runs on both Windows Mobile and Windows CE operating platforms. Although these are similar and share the same core operating system components, they differ in their user interface, functionality of underlying web browser components and certain OS characteristics. CETerm supports terminals running both these operating systems and compensates for any OS related differences so that the operating system differences are transparent to web pages for access of the SAP application.
Pocket IE is inadequate
The Pocket IE browser which comes with Windows CE / Windows Mobile terminals is inadequate to satisfy requirements for data collection solutions. Our CETerm web browser offers a controlled environment for view and navigation through your web application.
Rich platform for RF applications
The true value of CETerm lies in the rich feature set built around its terminal emulation or web browser technology. This includes:
  • Runtime dynamic access to OS resources and device peripherals
  • Ability to easily automate complex business workflows
  • Simplification of error handling and data validation
  • Countless configuration options to match your environment requirements
All this permits implementation of high usability applications, which directly leads to higher productivity solutions.
